Winter Park Teenagers Crash Into Motorcycle In Stolen SUV

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 25, 2015

Three teenagers decided to steal an SUV. While the idea might have sounded fun to them, it had the potential to do serious harm. They were most likely inexperienced drivers and should not have been driving such a large vehicle.

According to media reports, the motorcycle was riding along Orlando Avenue in Winter Park, Florida on August 10 early in the morning. The teenagers in the stolen SUV were traveling in the same direction and struck the motorcyclist. The impact ejected the motorcycle rider, and he was thrown onto the pavement. Rather than stopping at the scene of the accident, the teenagers sped away.

A police officer, who was a few blocks away, heard the report come over the radio and immediately spotted the vehicle. The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over. But once the vehicle was stopped, the three teenagers fled the vehicle on foot. The officer radioed for help and pursued the teenagers. Two of the teenagers, including the driver, were apprehended by law enforcement officers. They were taken into custody and are facing multiple charges. They were still searching for the third teenager. It’s only a matter of time before the two teenagers give up the identity of the third joy rider.

The motorcycle burst into flames after the accident, but the rider of the motorcycle only suffered minor injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released. It could have been worse. Anytime a motorcyclist is thrown from a vehicle, there is the potential for serious injury. Each year hundreds of motorcyclists are injured or killed in similar accidents.

It was unclear what charges the teenagers will face as a result of the accident. Information about the teenagers was not released because they are minors. As well, no information was released on the origins of the stolen SUV, but law enforcement officials made clear that the vehicle has been reported stolen by the owner.
