Rider Killed, Passenger Critically Injured in Daytona Beach Motorcycle Accident
One man was killed and two more people were injured in a recent Daytona Beach motorcycle accident that occurred when a car pulled out in front of the rider. Daytona Beach police report that the accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Nova Road just north of Beville Road. They say that a car pulled out of a shopping center parking lot in front of the motorcycle, giving the rider little time to react or take evasive action. Police report that the motorcycle collided with the car, causing the rider and his passenger to be ejected and creating a gas leak in the car that burst into flames. Fire crews responded quickly to the scene of the accident and put out the flames while EMTs attended to the injured. Police report that the driver of the motorcycle died from his injuries and his passenger suffered critical injuries. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Unfortunately, this scenario is distressingly familiar to James O. Cunningham and other motorcycle accident attorneys. Since 1977, he has represented hundreds of riders and passengers who have suffered serious, life-changing injuries in accidents caused by negligent drivers who violate riders’ rights-of-way. In many cases, cars pull out or change lanes in front of riders, giving them no time to react. As a result, the motorcycle collides with the car, and the rider and passenger are injured by the initial impact with the car. Those injuries are compounded by another impact with a tree, another vehicle, the surface of the road or another unyielding object.
