Police Investigating Florida Motorcycle Accident That Killed One Man and Injured Another

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 26, 2012

Florida Highway Patrol troopers report that one man was killed and another injured in a recent motorcycle accident at John Young Parkway and Blackstone Drive in Orange County. They say that a 30-year-old Kissimmee man suffered fatal injuries and a 36-year-old Orlando man was seriously injured when their motorcycles were forced off the road by a white van. The investigation is still underway, but troopers say that the two motorcycles and the van were northbound on John Young when the van’s driver attempted to move into the inside lane. The maneuver cut off the riders, forcing them into the median where they lost control of their motorcycles.

One rider was ejected from his bike and struck a tree. The other was also ejected from his motorcycle and landed in the median. Both riders were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where one died from his injuries and the other is being held in serious condition. Troopers say there was no contact between the van and the motorcycles and they are seeking help from the public from anyone who may have witnessed the accident.

This Florida motorcycle accident is sadly typical in that the riders were cut off by a much larger vehicle and had little or no time to take evasive action. Most motorcycle accidents here and in other states are caused by negligent drivers who cut off riders by turning into their path. When this happens, riders are often ejected from their bikes and strike immovable objects, resulting in catastrophic injuries. Survivors usually face a long, excruciatingly painful and terribly expensive road to recovery. Even if their recovery is successful, many are unable to work and provide for their families.

If you are a rider who has been injured by a negligent motorist, you are entitled to seek damages to help defray the costs of medical care, physical rehabilitation and other physical, psychological and financial injuries. Before you sign any documents and accept a payment, contact an experienced Orlando personal injury attorney such as James O. Cunningham, and have him review them.
