Passenger Perishes in Tampa Motorcycle Accident

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on November 16, 2015

An accident in the northern section of Tampa, Florida has claimed the life of a female motorcycle passenger. According to Tampa police, a 2004 Lexus was attempting to make a left hand turn when it was struck by a Toyota Corolla. A Kawasaki motorcycle that had been following the Corolla slamming into the vehicle directly after it struck the Lexus. The motorcycle was driven by a male, with a female passenger also aboard. The female passenger was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene. It is reported that the male and female aboard the motorcycle were husband and wife.

This accident is the latest in a long list of motorcycle accidents this year in the state of Florida that have resulted in a fatality. Sadly, many of these accidents were not the fault of the motorcyclist, but of other drivers. The disadvantage that motorcycle operators have is the lack of protection their vehicle provides them in a crash.

When most motorcycle enthusiasts are asked about why they enjoy the activity, they give a variety of reasons. They like the wind in their face, feeling the sun on their skin, or the freedom they feel when riding. Unfortunately, all of that freedom also comes at a price. Motorcycles share the road with vehicles that are much larger and heavier than they are. In a collision, speed plays a role, but also the mass of the vehicle and the force at which two objects collide. Most often, the person riding the motorcycle is seriously injured.

Drivers need to be on the alert for motorcycles when driving, particularly when the weather is warm. Their small size and agility can make them difficult to see, especially at night. When turning or changing lanes, always look twice to make sure your path is clear. Motorcycle accidents can be devastating not just for the injured, but also for other drivers.
