Motorcyclist Dies in Orlando Crash

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on December 14, 2017

Police with the Florida Highway Patrol issued a statement towards the end of last week regarding a Thursday morning crash which resulted in the death of one individual. The report describes how at close to 1:30 in the morning, Davis was on a motorcycle without a helmet as they drove down the western lanes of Colonial Drive. At the same time, Rohrbaugh, a 57-year-old Orlando resident was behind the wheel of a Hyundai as he drove down the center westbound lane of Colonial Drive.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, as the two vehicles approached the area where Colonial Drive crosses Home Folks Drive, Rohrbaugh decided to make a right turn. The problem was that Rohrbaugh had not moved from the center lane beforehand and so made the right turn from the center lane.

Rohrbaugh’s car suddenly loomed in front of Davis, who, it seems, did not have time to slow down or avoid the vehicle which suddenly appeared immediately in front of him. Davis collided with the Hyundai with the front of his motorcycle, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into the ground.

It is not clear who made the call, but emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the collision between the two vehicles occurred. Despite the best efforts of paramedics and other first responders, nothing could be done for the badly injured Davis, and they were declared dead at the scene of the incident. As mentioned above, Davis was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, although the Florida Highway Patrol did not indicate whether or not this fact contributed directly to the fatal nature of the collision.

The Florida Highway Patrol’s report indicated that charges are currently pending against Rohrbaugh. It is the responsibility for all motorists on the road to pay attention to their surroundings and ensure that they are not putting themselves or anyone else in danger. The charges leveled at Rohrbaugh indicate that the officers who conducted the investigation believe that it was his duty to ensure that the rightmost lane was clear before entering into it.

Rohrbaugh did not suffer any injuries in the collision.
