Suspect Identified in Florida Hit-and-Run Crash

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 18, 2014

Leesburg police are looking for the suspect in a June hit-and-run collision that left a 17-year-old girl seriously injured. An arrest warrant has been issued for a 25-year-old Kasson Kwame Ford. According to authorities, Ford was driving a Lincoln Continental near the intersection of Montclair Road and Thomas Avenue when he failed to stop for a stop sign and hit a red pickup truck driven by the 17-year-old victim. The victim was thrown from the vehicle, but survived the crash. Ford is charged with leaving the scene of a serious accident.

Automobile accidents are one of the leading causes of serious injury and death among adults aged 18 to 44. The Florida Highway Patrol estimates that about 15,000 accidents will occur on Florida roads this year. Of these accidents, some will potentially be very serious or even fatal. Sadly, nearly all of these incidents are highly preventable if drivers are willing to focus on the task at hand and observe some common safety practices.

The Florida Highway Patrol attributes most automobile accidents to one of three behaviors: speeding, failure to adjust to road conditions, and distracted driving. It is estimated that speeding may have been a factor in the accident previously described. What is especially tragic is that these behaviors are the result of choices made by thousands of drivers every day. What may be a moment’s inattention can result in a lifetime of agony for yourself or another person, perhaps someone you care about. A serious injury can impact a victim emotionally and financially for many years, maybe for the rest of his or her life.

If you or someone you love has been the victim of someone else’s negligent driving, please call the Law Offices of James O. Cunningham at 877-FL-INJURY (877-354-6587) for more information.
