Motorcyclist Run Over and Killed in Seminole County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 13, 2017

The perpetrator behind a hit-and-run death that occurred last Friday, along State Road 436 in Seminole County has eluded authorities, leaving one family’s search for answers ongoing.

The accident is reported to have happened around 10:45pm, when Cody Dunavin, a 22-year-old from Altamonte Springs, was riding on his Harley Davidson motorcycle along the eastbound lane of State Road 436. According to the report filed by the Florida Highway Patrol, a witness to the incident says that Dunavin suddenly lost control of his motorcycle, causing him to strike a curb. Due to the impact, Dunavin was thrown from his bike and onto State Road 436’s westbound lane.

The witness has stated that, as far as they could tell, the accident would have caused Dunavin some bodily trauma, but it at this point it was not serious enough to create fear around the life of Dunavin. What happened next is shocking and casts the event in an entirely different light. As Dunavin was lying in the road, trying to recover from the jarring event, another car came along and ran him over. This car did not stop, and the witness to the preceding events was not able to get a good look at the individual behind the wheel or even what sort of car had sped down the road, hit the dazed Dunavin, and then sped away. Emergency services were called immediately, but when they arrived they were unable to do anything to help Dunavin. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Currently, this incident is under investigation as the Florida Highway Patrol works together with anyone at all who may have seen something in order to apprehend the individual or individuals responsible for the death of this young man.

Although unbelievable, accidents such as this one occur nearly every day in Florida. Most of them are not as devastating, and most of them do not present much of a mystery regarding the people responsible. What is shared, however, is the life-altering effects such an incident can have on the lives of those directly or indirectly involved. Needless to say, recovering from such an accident becomes a tremendous financial and psychological strain.
