Florida Trooper Chases Down Hit-and-Run Driver

A Florida Highway patrolman chased down a hit-and-run driver in his own damaged vehicle following the incident Wednesday afternoon. The suspect ran a red light at the intersection of West Colonial Drive and Hiawassee Road, striking the police cruiser. The driver then attempted to flee the scene by driving on to a nearby apartment complex. The patrolman pursued the suspect and apprehended him as the suspect fled on foot.

This incident is especially disturbing to law enforcement as it illustrates the blatant disregard hit-and-run drivers have for their victims. If the patrolman had been severely injured and unable to pursue, the driver may never have been caught. There are many reasons hit-and-run drivers flee the scene, including lack of insurance or a valid license, fear of consequences, or just plain disregard for the well-being of others. Reckless and negligent driving are contributing factors in a number of Florida traffic accidents every year, and the trend is growing.

For the victims of hit-and-run accidents, the trauma associated with being left at the scene can be devastating. Many hit-and-run victims are seriously injured, if not worse, by their assailants. They may face a lonely road to recovery and piles of medical bills. A victim may lose his or her job due to the inability to work. Families lose husbands, wives, sons and daughters. The emotional and physical toll is often times too much to bear. But you don’t have to face it alone. There is help.

At the Law Offices of James O. Cunningham, P.A., we have helped hundreds of accident victims get the justice they deserve. We will listen to your story and evaluate your case. We can help you put your life back on track. Please give us a call at 877-FL-INJURY (877-354-6587).
