Jacksonville Dog Bite Victim Recovering After Friday’s Attack

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on September 14, 2015

A man walking along Pacetti Street in Jacksonville’s east side was attacked on Friday evening by four dogs, all of which are described as a pit bull mix. According to eye witness accounts, he was just walking down the street when the dogs escaped from a yard with a poorly maintained chain link fence. The dogs continued to attack the 56-year-old victim until witnesses rushed to help.

The man was rushed to UF Health for critical injuries, bites to the man’s and neck that appeared to be severe.

Neighbors in the area expressed concern because there is a school bus stop nearby. One female neighbor said that her children were afraid to go outside because of the dogs. A check with authorities revealed that Animal Control had been called six times previously about vicious dogs at the address, dating from March 2014 to September 4th, when the attack happened. According to the dog’s owner, who has said he was breeding blue pit bulls, he has complained many times to the landlord of the property about the condition of the fence but his dogs have never escaped the property previously. The owner has since signed the animals over to Animal Control.

Pets are a wonderful addition to any home, provided they are cared for and raised correctly, including proper training. This is especially important for breeds that may have a tendency towards violence, such as Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers and German Shepherds. Often times, homeowners may be required to carry special insurance for these breeds, and potential pet owners are encouraged to do their research prior to acquiring these breeds. However, many times pet owners do not take the time and do the necessary research beforehand, and this can lead to potential dangerous problems and outcomes for owners and dog bite victims.
