Vehicle Crashes into Orlando Embankment, One Dead

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on October 30, 2017

An extremely dramatic accident on Sunday Night in Orlando left one individual dead and numerous others in various states of shock. According to the Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson, Sgt. Kim Montes, a 45-year-old Orlando resident named Carlos Camacho was behind the wheel of a 2007 Honda SUV speeding down Chancellor Drive, close to Premier Row and the intersection of this street and Oak Ridge Road, when he lost control of the vehicle. The initial report states that Camacho was traveling at excessive speeds as he drove along Chancellor Drive, and that it was when he failed to adequately navigate a tight curve that the incident began. It is believed that this happened at 9:15 in the evening.

After crashing through a small hedge, Camacho abruptly entered a parking lot where his car then struck a curb with such extreme force that the vehicle was sent airborne, over a retention pond, and into the corner of the pond’s embankment. A witness to the incident said that the car nearly completely cleared the embankment and the canal, but that the tires caught the edge of the retention pond which caused the roof of the car to slam into the wall of a building located nearby.

Several witnesses immediately rushed to the mangled vehicle and used fire extinguishers to put out the flames that were beginning to consume the car and reach dangerously close to the gas tank. Emergency response vehicles were also quick to arrive at the scene and fire rescue personnel worked with other first responders to try and free Camacho from the destroyed car. Unfortunately, the efforts of the paramedics and others were not enough to safe Camacho from the devastation and trauma that his body experienced as a result of the crash and he was declared dead at the scene of the incident.

The intersection was shut down for a few hours while troopers conducted their initial investigation but was subsequently reopened. The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident as their troopers attempt to discover what factors were present to cause such a violent crash.
