One Teen Killed and Five Injured on Florida I-95 Car Crash

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on April 10, 2012

One teenager was killed and five others seriously injured after an car accident on I-95 in Brevard County last week. The crash happened in Melbourne near the Pineda Causeway, and the van was carrying six teens who were traveling back home after winning a basketball tournament. The van blew a tire, hit another car and turned over several times. Brandon Fritz, 15, a student at Eau Gallie High School, was ejected from the vehicle and killed.

Fritz was known for making a good impression on everyone he met, and he had dreams of playing professional basketball one day. One teammate said that Fritz “lived for basketball.” He also said that he looked up to him and had a hard time believing the news of his tragic death. The other five teenage boys in the van are AAU teammates, and they were taken to Holmes Regional Hospital in serious condition. They include Zachary Roy, 16, of Melbourne, Lucious McKay, 17, of Palm Bay, Dymond Thomas, 15, of Palm Bay, Michael McCauley, 15, of Melbourne and Alexander Hartfield, 15, of Palm Bay. Two people in the other car involved in the accident had only minor injuries and did not go to the hospital for treatment. Trained psychologists as well as crisis teams will be available at Brevard schools.
