Jefferson County Crash Kills One, Injures Another

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on March 28, 2016

As a result of a severe car crash that occurred on the morning of February 19th, 2016, one individual was killed and another was hospitalized. The accident occurred around 7:00 am near the intersection of Main Avenue and W. Washington Street near Monticello.

According to officials from the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened when two Pinetta men – 23-year-old Robert Christopher Croft and 20-year-old Jose Ryan Hernandez – left the roadway in a pickup truck, smashed into a tree, turned over and struck a second tree. The vehicle had been headed west on W. Washington Street when it crossed over the eastbound lanes and jumped the shoulder.

Croft was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while Hernandez survived with serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Details were not immediately provided to the press regarding which individual was the driver, and which was the passenger at the time of the crash. No additional information has been released since the initial reports regarding Hernandez’ current state of health.

An investigation was opened by the Florida Highway Patrol in conjunction with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson County EMS. So far, authorities have not publicly identified the reason Croft and Hernandez’ vehicle left the roadway in the first place. Florida State troopers have also not made any statements as to whether they suspect the involvement of alcohol, drugs, distracted driving or other factors.
