Arrest Made After Chase, Car Accident in Orange County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 25, 2018

Close to 6:00 in the evening this past Thursday officers with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office attempted to perform a routine traffic stop on a blue Ford Mustang in the Southern lanes of Pine Hills Road. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office report, the officer who attempted to initiate the traffic stop had looked up the information on the blue car and discovered that it was wanted in connection to several unresolved investigations. It is not clear if this was the reason why the officer attempted to pull the driver over or if there was some other traffic violation that the driver of the Mustang had committed.

The 23-year-old driver of the car pulled over to the side of the road and waited until the deputy exited their cruiser and approached. When the officer was about halfway between the Mustang and the police car, the driver of the Mustang put the car back into gear and, according to the deputy’s account, attempted to strike the officer before accelerating away.

This action precipitated a chase between deputies with the Orange County Police Department and the blue Mustang. The group began by continuing south on Pine Hills Road until it reached State Road 408, at which time the Mustang turned left onto S.R. 408’s eastbound lanes. At the intersection with Orange Blossom Trail, the Mustang attempted to make a right turn onto OBT’s southern lanes, but here is where the driver of the Mustang collided with another vehicle.

Still attempting to escape from the pursuing officers, the individual driving the Mustang exited the vehicle and tried to run away on foot. The deputies also exited their vehicles, and it was not long before they caught up to the fleeing individual.

After a brief struggle, the deputies reported that the had successfully apprehended the individual, who was now in custody.

Inside of the Mustang, officers say that they discovered numerous objects that were reported as stolen.

The report indicated that the Orange County Police Department are in the process of filing several charges against the driver of the Mustang, including fleeing the scene of an accident, and aggravated assault on a police officer.
