Jet Ski Crash on Lake Griffin Sends 3 People to the Hospital

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on June 26, 2014

An accident involving two jet skis at Lake Griffin State Park just north of Leesburg, sent two men and a seven-year-old boy to the hospital Tuesday evening. According to authorities, the men were operating the jet skis and the seven-year-old was a passenger on one of them. The three victims all knew each other. The men were more seriously injured than the seven-year-old, who was treated and released.

Summer is often a great time to get out and enjoy water-related activities, whether it is fishing, boating, using a Jet Ski, or swimming. Unfortunately, this also means that authorities see a rise in water-related activities during the summer months. Many people are injured every year in boating and skiing accidents on Florida lakes. In total there were 110,954 injuries on personal watercrafts last year in the state of Florida according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation website.

Authorities urge everyone who participates in these types of activities to stay alert to the actions of others around you and always wear a life jacket. Many of the thousands of watercraft injuries that occur every year are due to negligence or reckless actions of others, and the results can be devastating. Severe injury or death are not uncommon in these types of accidents.

The loss of income and freedom from a personal injury is often too much for victims to bear. Medical bills and debt collections can pile up in a very short time. Victims often do not know where to turn for help with these issues.

If you or someone you care about is the victim of a watercraft accident, please contact watercraft injury attorney James O. Cunningham, P.A. today at 877-FL-INJURY (877-354-6587) for a free initial consultation.
