West Palm Beach Driver Causes Accident Due To Argument With Girlfriend

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 1, 2015

A man who was having a heated argument with his girlfriend, who was a passenger in his car at the time, caused a wreck Sunday night in West Palm Beach. According to authorities, William Burgess, of Riviera Beach was driving south on Jog Road and decided to swerve into oncoming traffic. He drove his vehicle up over the grassy median and crashed into two northbound vehicles. Fortunately, the occupants of the other vehicles suffered only minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Burgess’ girlfriend, who was not named, stated that in the heat of the argument he threatened to kill both of them and then entered the median. She stated that she also believed that he was intoxicated and possibly high at the time. West Palm Beach Police indicate that Burgess was driving with a suspended license and that Burgess has a long list of arrests – a total of 24 in the state of Florida. The latest license suspension was the result of failing to pay a traffic fine.

This story highlights an important point that many drivers forget when they get behind the wheel of a car. Not every driver on the road is a safe driver, or has your safety in mind when they make decisions while driving. For this reason, it is extremely important to remain vigilant and alert while operating a motor vehicle and to take note of the actions of other drivers.

If a driver is behaving erratically, switching lanes constantly, speeding up and slowing down, or tailgating other vehicles it is vital that you stay away from that vehicle and report the behavior to authorities if possible. It could be an indication that a driver is drunk, distracted, or about to engage in a road rage-type incident. One phone call could be the difference between another driver going home safely or becoming the victim of an accident.
