Orange County Family Killed in Fiery Car Accident

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on December 9, 2017

Early Tuesday morning at around 9:30 a.m., a fatal auto accident involving a family of three occurred at Colonial Drive and Pete Parrish Boulevard in Orlando, close to the Central Florida Fairgrounds. The collision itself was so forceful that it caused their vehicle to immediately become engulfed in flames upon impact with a tree on the side of the road.

Orlando Police Sgt. Bernal overheard the sound of the crash while he was responding to an unrelated incident in the area. He rushed over to the vehicle to find it almost completely wrapped in flames in just a matter of minutes. The sergeant valiantly attempted to rescue the vehicle’s occupants, but the heat from the fire was far too great for the officer to withstand, and he was forced to stand down. Two adults and one child, a 3-year-old, passed away at the scene. Authorities are withholding the names of the victims until next of kin has been notified.

A witness to the accident, Antwuan Ringer, was at a local tire business just across the street when he saw the tragic accident happen. He told local ABC news affiliate WFTV 9 that when it hit the tree, “the car exploded in the worst way possible. Axles flew off the car.” There was so much debris left behind after the accident that it shut down West Colonial Drive into the early afternoon.

“It’s a horrific crash, unfortunately. We don’t know if it’s the same family, if they’re all together, so some families are unfortunately going to be missing some members of their family this Christmas,” Bernal said about the accident in a report to the press. This terrible incident is currently under investigation by the Orlando Traffic Homicide Unit.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims involved in this tragic accident. At the Law Offices of James O. Cunningham, we know all too well how difficult a time this can be for everyone, especially with the holidays just around the corner.
