One injured, three dead in Hollywood, Florida Car Crash

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 27, 2017

One woman was rescued while three others were killed as the result of a severe Hollywood, Florida motor vehicle crash that happened early Sunday morning. The accident, which happened at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and 35th Avenue, involved a black Nissan crashing into a white minivan.

According to a preliminary police report, the Nissan was speeding in the westbound lane of Hollywood Boulevard when they crashed into the turning white van. Upon impact, the Nissan was immediately engulfed in flames, trapping – and killing – several passengers and the driver inside. The driver of the van was also being treated for injuries.

When emergency first responders arrived at the scene, they reported finding the driver outside of the vehicle receiving help from a bystander, while the other people were still in the car. Because of the fire, bystanders said it was impossible for them to get anywhere near the vehicle to help.

As the initial police reports make it clear that the driver of the black Nissan was speeding, it is very likely that they will be held responsible for the injured driver of the white van and, possibly (depending on who they were) the deaths of the two passengers in the Nissan. For instance, because the driver of the white van was injured and her vehicle damaged as a direct result of the other driver’s negligent driving (i.e., speeding), she may have the legal right to seek compensation for her injuries and damaged property. To do this, she will file what is known as a personal injury lawsuit. Because the other driver is deceased, however, this lawsuit will be filed against her estate.

If successful, the driver of the white van, known by the court as the Plaintiff, will be able to receive compensation for:

  • Damage to vehicle
  • Medical treatment and expenses
  • Ongoing and future medical treatment
  • Loss of wages
  • Future loss of earnings
  • Pain and suffering
