One Dead, Three Injured in Volusia County Crash

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 8, 2017

An accident involving three vehicles in Volusia County this past Thursday left one individual dead and several others badly injured. According to the report filed by the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred close to 12:30pm on Thursday where U.S. 17 and State Road 70 intersect. The vehicles involved in the accident were a Ford pickup truck, a Kia Optima, and a Chevy pickup truck. As they have been reconstructed, the events indicate that the Ford pickup was traveling southbound on U.S. 17. The Kia Optima, on the other hand, was headed north on the same highway. The Chevy pickup was also traveling north, somewhat behind the Kia Optima.

What happens next is, unfortunately, not uncommon. The Ford’s driver, for reasons unknown, allowed his vehicle to drift off towards the right shoulder of the highway. Realizing the problem, the driver then attempted to correct their course. In their attempts to get back in the appropriate lane, the Ford’s driver wound up over correcting their path, drifting completely out of the southbound lane and into the northbound one. In the moments that followed, the Ford impacted the left side of the Kia, rebounded, and proceeded to collide head-on with the Chevy pickup.

Emergency teams responded immediately to the brutal accident. At the scene, they found all drivers seriously injured.  A passenger in the Chevy was declared dead at the scene. Ambulances transported all involved to nearby hospitals where they are currently undergoing treatment and observation. As of this writing, none of the names of those involved have been released, and there is also no indication as to whether or not any charges have been filed against any of the accident participants. An investigation continues as the authorities attempt to figure out just what happened to create such a terrible accident.
