Jacksonville Woman Killed in Crash on I-295

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on January 22, 2016

In an unfortunate auto accident on the evening of Sunday, December 27th, 2015, a young woman was killed on I-295 near Alta Drive. The driver, 21-year-old Jacksonville resident Madisson Russell, was in the left lane of the highway when her vehicle veered to the left and went off the road. Russell then appeared to have attempted to return to the left lane, over-corrected, and continued through the right lane and off the highway again, where her car eventually hit a tree.

According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pronounced Russell dead at the scene of the crash. It is as of yet unknown what exactly caused the 21-year-old to initially leave the highway from the left lane, but troopers continue to investigate. No word has been released as to whether police suspect alcohol, drugs or distracted driving and/or texting in any way.

As a result of the crash, debris from Russell’s 2004 Mazda 6 struck a northbound Mazda CX-7. It was not reported whether the driver of the CX-7 faced any injuries or particularly severe vehicle damage. After the incident was reported as fatal, all northbound lanes of I-295 were closed by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Fortunately, this particular crash claimed no additional victims, despite the fact that Russel’s vehicle veered and left the highway twice in a dangerous loss of control. Of course, this is small comfort for the young woman’s family, who are not only mourning the loss of Madisson, but are still waiting on answers from the police.
