Groveland Man Killed in ATV Accident
Monday Morning, in Groveland, an individual was driving along Brantley Road, close to where it intersects with Mascotte Empire Road, when they saw something unsettling: an overturned ATV that seemed tangled in a nearby fence. The wheels on the ATV were still, and it was clear that the vehicle had been lying like this for at least a little while.
However, there was a noticeable pool of engine oil around the overturned vehicle, indicating that this crash was also not terribly old. It didn’t look as though anyone else was around. The driver of the passing car slowed down and scanned the grass, unsure what to expect, but supposing it wasn’t going to be plesant. After a few moments, the roaming eyes picked out a pair of legs, boots, blue jeans poking from the tall grass. The police were called, and the story receives a fuller life from there.
According to the report filed by the Florida Highway Patrol, a 43-year-old man named Avery Wayne Paul, a Groveland resident, was driving his ATV down Brantley Road in the late night/early morning dark when his vehicle unexpectedly left the road and collided with the fence. Avery Wayne Paul was thrown from the ATV. It is believed that his impact with the ground killed him.
As of this moment, there are several unanswered questions that the police are attempting to solve. For one thing, it is not known exactly what caused Avery Wayne Paul’s ATV to depart so suddenly from the blacktop. An early toxicology report indicated that there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs in the system of the deceased man, and his friends and family recall him being a careful driver and an excellent operator of ATVs. It is possible that an animal suddenly crossed the road and that Paul swerved to avoid it, sacrificing his own life for that of an animal, although this is just a piece of speculation.
Another question being asked is why exactly Paul was driving his ATV down this road in the dark to begin with. What compelled Paul to leave his home and travel down this dark road without anyone knowing? These are the questions that will likely not receive satisfactory answers in the upcoming weeks, making the situation all the more difficult for those who Paul leaves behind.
