Five People Injured in Florida Head-On Auto Collision

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 3, 2014

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say that a recent head-on collision in west Orange County sent five people to area hospitals for treatment for undisclosed injuries. Troopers say that the collision occurred around 9:25 a.m. as one of the drivers, a 58-year-old woman driving a 2013 Hyundai south on Powers Drive, suddenly crossed over the center line near the intersection with Balboa Drive. Troopers report that she drove directly into the path of another Hyundai driven by a 27-year-old woman with three passengers in her car, one of which was a 15-year-old boy.

The collision was quite violent, trapping two passengers in the northbound Hyundai, which prompted Orange County Fire Rescue personnel to issue a "mass-casualty-incident response" to extract them from the wreckage as quickly as possible. The injured boy was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where he is being treated for undisclosed injuries. The four adults were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and Health Central Hospital for treatment.

It is not yet known why the driver of the 2013 Hyundai crossed the center line but if investigating troopers find that she was negligent, she and her insurance company could be liable for considerable damages. With the assistance of an experienced Orlando personal injury attorney such as James O. Cunningham, the victims may be able to receive damages to help defray the costs of medical care, replace lost wages and other damages.
