Failure to Yield Leads to Accident, Injuries in Indian Rivers Country
A man was seriously injured in a two car crash happening Friday near the county fairgrounds in Indian Rivers Country, Florida. The crash involved a white SUV and a blue pickup truck. The pickup truck was traveling east on 77th Street and failed to yield at a blinking red light. As the truck travelled through the intersection it crashed into an SUV driven by a female. The SUV had three children inside.
According to a county sheriff’s report, upon impact the male driver of the truck was ejected from the vehicle. He was later transported by air to the nearby emergency trauma center at Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he was being treated for life-threatening injuries. One of the children inside the SUV was also taken to a local hospital, although emergency first responders said that this was only as a precaution. The woman and the other two children did not appear to have been injured in the crash.
As, at least according to the facts at hand, it seems that the cause of the accident was the truck driver’s failure to yield. This failure would be considered an act of negligence, likely making him liable (assuming that he recovers from his injuries) for any damage he caused to the SUV and/or its occupants. Again, according to the facts, it seems that the SUV sustained damage and, perhaps, one of the child occupants. As a result, the owner of the SUV and the injured passenger could seek compensation for their injuries/damage to the vehicle by filing a personal injury lawsuit against the truck driver.
That being said, in the case at hand, the driver of the SUV and the other two passengers should go seek medical attention – even if they don’t seem to be hurt. This is essential as often times injuries don’t manifest themselves right away. Later, if they do feel they are injured but failed to seek medical attention, they could have a more difficult time getting the compensation they deserve.
