Crash in Tallahassee Claims Three Lives
An accident in Tallahassee on Sunday night claimed the lives of three young victims. According to Tallahassee police reports, a black Challenger driver by a 27-year-old Tallahassee man was traveling westbound on Pensacola Drive when he struck a white PT Cruiser in the side as it attempted to make a left-hand turn onto White Drive. The driver of the PT Cruiser, a 20-year-old also from Tallahassee was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His three passengers, two males and a female who were all students at Florida State University, died at the scene from their injuries. The driver of the Challenger also sustained only minor injuries.
Witnesses to the accident believe that the speed of the Challenger was a factor in the accident, although it remains under investigation at this time. It is also not known at this time if the three individuals killed were wearing their seatbelts. Tallahassee police have said that they are “currently reviewing the evidence and interviewing witnesses.” Witnesses did also say that a previous accident occurred at this intersection, involving a car and a pedestrian. There are plans to petition the city to install traffic devices that would decrease speeds in the area such as speed bumps.
This article is a prime example of four friends who climbed into the car together, only to never reach their destination. Though they were not breaking any laws, another driver’s careless actions has permanently impacted or ended their lives. The pain expressed by their families and friends at Florida State University both personally and in the media has been heartbreaking for observers. And, though the driver of the Challenger has expressed deep remorse over the accident, he cannot change the outcome. It is a reminder for everyone that gets behind the wheel to think before making driving decisions and to always be mindful of others who are sharing the road with you.
