Police Suspect Alcohol a Contributing Factor in Orlando Auto Accident

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 29, 2012

A driver traveling the wrong way down a one-way street in downtown Orlando who had to be cut out of his automobile after an accident may now face DUI charges, according to Orlando police. Police say the recent accident closed the intersection of Garland Avenue and Amelia Street for an hour after the man rolled his Toyota with such force that firefighters had to cut the roof off the car to extract the man and treat him for injuries. If blood tests indicate that the man was legally drunk at the time, the accident scene is especially ironic to Orlando police. The location was the site of a press conference earlier that day where they announced a campaign to step up enforcement of drivers driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Fortunately, no other people or vehicles were involved in the accident. The man was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

A woman suffered fatal injuries in a recent motorcycle accident when she fell off the back of the motorcycle after the rider lost control. Accident investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol say that the accident occurred on State Road 434 near the intersection with Lake Underhill Road. Troopers report that the victim, a 46-year-old Orlando woman, was riding on the back of a Honda motorcycle operated by a 39-year-old Orlando man traveling southbound on S.R. 434 around 10:40 p.m. one recent evening when the man tried to change lanes. As the man attempted to pass a nearby sedan to move from the right lane to the right turn lane, he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a curb.

No Injuries Reported From Aviation Accident at Orlando Airport

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 29, 2012

Accident investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) report that no one was injured in a recent aviation accident at Orlando Sanford International Airport. They say that the small, single-engine aircraft crashed into a ditch after veering off the runway around 10 a.m. one recent morning. The FAA’s investigation is still ongoing, and the agency has not yet determined the cause of the crash, but investigators said that the aircraft sustained minor damage. This aviation accident is the second to occur in Florida in as many weeks. A single-engine aircraft recently had to make an emergency landing in the median of Interstate 75 near Tampa after experiencing engine problems. Orlando aviation accident attorney James O. Cunningham has been monitoring developments in both accidents very closely, as recent trends suggest poor aircraft maintenance may be contributing factors.

Racing Companies Launch Campaign to Combat Illegal Street Racing in Orlando

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 29, 2012

Several Central Florida auto racing companies have announced that they are working together to launch a campaign intended to reduce the amount of illegal street racing on area roadways. The announcement for the “Off the Streets and to the Race Track” campaign comes days after a street racing accident on Heintzelman Road injured nearly a dozen people. Organizers say that the program will begin this coming September and will provide a safe alternative to street racing by letting drivers race their cars on local race tracks instead of streets. They have been trying to rally support for the idea for some time, but their efforts have been met with some resistance. Less than two weeks before the recent crash on Heintzelman Road, Orange County commissioners unanimously rejected a proposal to allow drag racing to continue at a track in the Southchase neighborhood.

Police Make Arrest in Fatal Florida Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 29, 2012

Police have made an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run bicycle accident in Orange County that killed a man recently. Police say that the victim was riding his bike on Albatross Street around 10 p.m. one recent evening and was trying to cross Park Avenue when he was struck by a Toyota Yaris. The impact threw him onto the street, where he was run over by a 2003 Infiniti SUV driven by an Apopka woman. Police report that the SUV dragged the victim’s body “a substantial distance” and that the victim died immediately after being struck by the SUV. The accident shocked James O. Cunningham and other Orlando bicycle accident attorneys due to the woman’s callousness. After striking the victim and dragging his body an unknown distance, witnesses say she stopped but did not get out of her car despite being told by three witnesses that she had hit the bicyclist.

Ten People Injured in Orlando Drag Racing Accident

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 29, 2012

Orlando police report that they have made an arrest in a recent drag racing incident that critically injured two people and sent eight other spectators to area hospitals. They say that the apprehension of one of the drivers, a 22-year-old Central Florida man, will lead to several charges including unlawful racing, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, reckless driving and others. Orlando auto accident attorney James O. Cunningham and his peers in the legal community find it sadly ironic that this crash happened shortly after Orlando city officials unanimously rejected a proposed plan to make area roadways safer by allowing drag racing on area racetracks.
