Child Electrocuted at Miniature Golf Course in Florida
The Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner recently issued a ruling in the death of an 11-year-old girl from Latham, NY, at a southwest Orange County miniature golf course. The autopsy revealed that the child was accidentally electrocuted when she reached into a small pond to retrieve a golf ball. The girl was playing mini golf around 2 p.m. at the Orange Lake Resort on Irlo Bronson Highway when her ball went into a small concrete pond around two feet deep. She cried out after reaching into the water but was unable to pull herself back out.
An Orlando Boating Accident Attorney’s Guide to Boating Under the Influence (BUI) Penalties
Orlando personal injury lawyer James O. Cunningham has seen and assisted a lot of Florida boating accident victims over the nearly four decades since he began practicing law. Sadly, many of these accidents were caused by negligent boaters who operated their vessels while under the influence of alcohol. Florida has more than 11,000 square miles of waterways. In 2011, there were at least 25 confirmed cases of accidents caused by boating under the influence of alcohol or BUI. These accidents resulted in dozens of injuries that required trips to the emergency room. In order to raise awareness about the risks of BUI and help make Florida waterways safer for the upcoming busy summer boating season, Mr. Cunningham has compiled a list of criminal penalties for boaters who drink while operating their vessels.

Orlando Amusement Park Accident Prevention Tips
Although the Orlando area has some of the world’s most famous amusement parks that draw millions of visitors each year, each summer, our state has lots of smaller carnivals and other traveling amusement parks that move from one location to another at country fairs and other events. These smaller traveling amusement parks are fun and relatively inexpensive, but they are also more dangerous, according to the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA). The IAAPA reports that there were at least 1,086 ride-related injuries in amusement park accidents in Florida and across the country in 2009.
Another Hip Replacement Recall Announced By Manufacturer
Smith & Nephew PLC, a British company that manufactures a metal hip socket liner for hip implants, has announced that it is recalling liners used with its R3 Acetabular System hip device. The liner became available in 2009 and has been implanted in around 7,700 patients in Great Britain. This voluntary recall came after clinical trials with the device showed a higher rate of failure than previously thought. Smith & Nephew reported that they are “not satisfied with the clinical results” after many recipients of the device required corrective surgery to remove the liner on their hip replacement implant due to chronic pain and reduced mobility.
Florida Man Files Medical Malpractice Suit After Surgical Fire
A Florida man recently filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against NCH Downtown Naples Hospital after he was seriously injured by a surgical fire while undergoing pacemaker surgery. The man had his pacemaker surgically implanted on March 19, 2008. When he woke up after the surgery, he discovered second-degree burns all over his chest, neck and one shoulder. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), around 650 people are injured each year in surgical fires, a relatively unknown but potentially deadly and disfiguring risk in the surgical wards of hospitals.

The recall affects 36,000 Kolcraft strollers sold in the U.S. and another 270 sold in Canada. According to the CPSC report, the fingertips of at least three children have been amputated and two adults suffered smashed fingers when they locked or unlocked the hinge mechanism on Kolcraft Contours Options strollers. The mechanism is used to adjust the handlebars on the strollers, and users’ fingers can be smashed or cut deeply by the metal.
Types of Elder Abuse and Recognizing Them to Help Abuse Victims
There are many nursing homes, assisted living facilities and other types of long-term care here in Florida, and grim stories about elder abuse are a common theme in newspapers and other media outlets. Parents File Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Florida Hospital
The parents of a young Florida girl who died after undergoing a routine tonsillectomy have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital where the surgery was performed. The parents filed a complaint against Mease Countryside Hospital and the doctors who treated their daughter. They claim that a potent mixture of drugs and medical negligence caused her death. A few minutes after the girl went into surgery on August 13, 2010, she developed pulmonary edema, which caused a buildup of excess fluid in her lungs. The fluid accumulated so much that the girl went into cardiac arrest, and, despite doctors’ efforts to resuscitate her, she died two days after the surgery.
