Orlando Pedestrian Accident Sends High School Senior to the Hospital
A senior at Timber Creek High School was recovering recently after being struck by a car as she walked to a school bus stop. The 17-year-old Orlando girl had just missed her bus and was walking across Mark Twain Boulevard around 6:30 a.m. to catch it at the next stop when she was struck by a white Honda S2000. She was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children for treatment after the pedestrian accident, but her condition was not known at the time the Orlando Sentinel article was published. A Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson said that the girl’s injuries did not appear to be serious.
The Florida Highway Patrol does not currently track the numbers of schoolchildren hit by vehicles while walking to school. However, a spokesperson for the FHP said, “We see more of these types of accidents in the morning hours than in the afternoon hours.”

Woman Killed in Lake County Florida Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Accident
As reported in the Miami Herald, a 50-year-old London woman died from injuries she suffered in a central Florida hit-and-run motorcycle accident on U.S. Highway 192 in Lake County in August. She was a passenger on a motorcycle and she and the driver were both thrown from the motorcycle when struck by the car.
Officials from the Florida Highway Patrol say that the driver who caused the accident and fled from the scene dragged the victim along the road for more than a quarter of a mile before she became dislodged. There was no indication that the driver attempted to stop after the collision occurred. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the motorcycle’s driver was taken to a hospital with injuries described as serious but stable. Read the rest »
Lake County Truck Accident Claims Life of Haines City Man
A truck accident has resulted in the death of a man driving a van who was hit by a semi-truck driving on State Road 33. Florida Highway Patrol officers investigated the fatal Florida truck accident that occurred on S.R. 33 near the intersection with Pine Island Road. The Orlando Sentinel claims that the tractor-trailer was driven by a 38-year-old Texas man who was southbound on S.R. 33 when he realized that he was heading in the wrong direction.
According to accident investigators, the truck driver attempted to back into a private drive along the east shoulder of S.R. 33 to get turned around and had backed his trailer across the highway’s northbound lane. The man killed in the Florida truck accident was a 56-year-old Haines City man driving a Chevrolet van that was northbound on S.R. 33 and impacted the left side of the semi’s trailer. Police say he tried to stop before hitting the trailer, but was unable to avoid hitting the trailer. Read the rest »
Car Making U-Turn Causes Serious Florida Motorcycle Accident
A motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries recently when a car making a u-turn crossed into his lane causing the 45-year-old rider to slam into the hood of a 2000 Mazda. The Orlando Sentinel claims that the man injured in the Florida motorcycle accident was driving his motorcycle south on Southwest 142nd Avenue when the Mazda making a u-turn struck him at the intersection of Thoroughbred Court.
The impact caused the motorcyclist to be thrown from his motorcycle onto the hood of the car. His head slammed into the car’s windshield and the momentum caused him to roll off the other side of the car. Emergency response personnel transported him to Broward General Medical Center. Teenager in Stolen Truck Causes Three Separate Florida Auto Accidents
The Gainesville Sun recently described a teenager accused of stealing a truck owned by the State of Florida and causing three separate crashes on University Avenue. After causing the last of the accidents, the teen was rushed to Shands at the University of Florida for emergency surgery, but was expected to survive his injuries. One other person injured in the crash was hospitalized with injuries described as non-life threatening in the third truck accident that occurred at 100 E. University Avenue at 3:30 p.m.
The teenage driver, who had to be cut from the truck to be treated for his injuries, was identified by Gainesville police as an 18-year-old St. Petersburg resident. A spokesperson for the Gainesville Police said that the airbag in the stolen Chevy pickup truck may have saved the teen’s life. Read the rest »
